Marquitta’s career began in K-12 education, where infusing standardized curriculum with creative learning solutions was an everyday task to keep easily disengaged teenagers focused and on track to graduation. Throughout her career, Marquitta gained valuable experience in team leadership, using data-driven instruction to provide feedback, and creating inclusive and interactive learning environments to cater to diverse learning needs.
Marquitta left the school level after 13 1/2 years, and worked on the district-level as a support role, marketing and strengthening the school choice magnet programs within Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Her responsibilities included planning and executing marketing campaigns through various channels such as social media, email, and print. Additionally, she digitized systems to enhance accessibility for over 40,000 parents and staff. Marquitta also became proficient in curating engaging experiences for visitors through both small and large-scale event planning and marketing efforts. During her six-year tenure, Marquitta achieved remarkable success by increasing participation and interest in CMS's largest county-wide, community-facing event by an impressive 300%.
